STREETWEAR & KICKS at Sportie LA!

This week we had a chance to highlight some really special youth at the Street Wear & Kicks party that we had at Sportie LA on Tuesday. A little while back, I linked up with Di Moda PR and The Woodcraft Rangers to create and direct an after school program for inner city students called "StreetWear & Kicks." Some very talented young artists and designers surfaced from this program, so we held a party at Sportie LA to recognize the talented youth and to raise money for their program. Sportie LA donated 20% of the sales that night to the Woodcraft Rangers Organization so, if you bought a pair of shoes that, it was for a good cause. You could also get them customized by the youth on site so I bought a pair and had one of the students tag JUST BE COOL! Check it ooooouuut!





Later that night we rolled over to The Roxy to check out our boys Strong Arm Steady's performance and mix-tape release party! The show was killer! Mid set, David Banner came out and spit a freestyle and then beat boxed while Black Thought of The Roots spit a 2 minute freestyle. Check the footage below, it was definitely a historical moment in hip hop! Special thanks to Krondon and Devi Dev for lacing us with the tickets!

Here it is ladies and gentlemen! This is one of my favorite songs by my big bros Dom Kennedy and Polyester The Saint, titled "CHOOSE UP!", with production by the oh so talented production team, LAUSD. Originally, it was suppose to be on the JUST BE COOL Compilation album but everyone has been blowing us up about it so we had to let it out a little early. This track is going to be on Dom's next project titled "From The West Side With Love" that will be dropping very soon ;). This that West Side Crenshaw COOL ish, Hahaha! Enjoy!

JUST BE COOL in the schools!

So, yesterday we went out to speak to the BSU at Pomona Catholic High School and we had a great time! This was our first time spreading the COOL in the schools and it went really well. I got a chance to break down the definition of COOL and what it really means to be YOUrself and to be COOL. Even signed a couple autographs, hahaha! Thanks to Julie Dominguez for letting us speak to her class. We'll be back out there soon, in the mean time you all be COOL! Check out the pics below!

The Remake: WE ARE THE WORLD!!

I can't believe it's actually been 25 years since Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie originally wrote and recorded "We Are The World." Then, it was to raise awareness in Africa and now they've all come together to help the people of Haiti. This is a dope song for a great cause and the video really helps it all come to life.

It's good to see the people of Haiti keeping a positive attitude during this tough time; I love how they show clips of the kids dancing and beginning to rebuild their country through song and dance. It's also really good to see all these talented artist come together; I'm glad they did this and I hope everyone is inspired, just as they were, to do whatever you can to help others in need.

Remember the new definition of COOL, our message to the world and way of life, always keeping a positive attitude about life and a world of peace, unity and progress.

HAITI: More COOL Releif Footage!!

Let us not forget, Haiti still needs our help, they are in very bad shape as a country and can use all the assistance they can get. It will be like this for a while and as the media coverage diminishes we must come together to offer what we can. We have the opportunity to help others, we must celebrate that opportunity as much as possible and give as much as we can. We will continue to support the people of Haiti just as you should. Here is a pretty dope organization that is collecting shoes to send to the people of Haiti, Soles For Souls (You know you got kicks laying around collecting dust for days!). Help however you can, whether it is through grassroots action or one of the many organizations that are offering assistance, let us not forget about our neighbors!

STREETWEAR & KICKS @ Sportie LA!!!

As you may or may not already know, JBC is about progress and uplifting. A little while back we linked up with Diana Bianchini of Di Moda PR and The Woodcraft Rangers to coordinate an after school fashion program for under privileged kids called Street Wear & Kicks! As the director of the program I got to trace back through my development as a creative visionary and think to myself, what gave me and what would have given me the proper guidance to get started on the right foot? So we developed a program that was focused on exposing the children to the process of taking a vision and bringing it to life, as well as turning it into a business. We took the kids on field trips to places like Avid Ink. where they got to learn the process of sublimation printing and then they got to actually make their own shirts.


We took them downtown to the LA Mart where they got to learn about the wholesale side of the business and then we went around the corner to FIDM where they got information on getting an education in fashion. The most interesting part about the field trips for me was that most of the kids had no idea that the things they were learning even existed. Its important that we expose the youth to these things because without knowing its there, you can't strive for it. We even got support from a local shoe retailer, Sportie LA. Sportie LA donated a pair of white Converse All-Stars to each kid for them to customize. The designs they came up with were incredible! They put together a full blown fashion show at the end of the program and impressed their entire school. It was really special because you could see some of the kids actually identifying fashion as a new found passion of theirs.


So to give these kids the proper recognition that they deserve for all their hard work, Sportie LA will be hosting a party for them, featuring their designs, on February 23rd at the Sportie LA on Melrose Ave. Special thanks to Diana Bianchini (Di Moda PR) for taking the initiative to put together such a special program, thanks to Woodcraft Rangers for facilitating it, and to our sponsors Avid Ink., Sportie LA, FIDM, and everyone else that made this possible! A Sign of Things to Come: PAC DIV x THE NEPTUNES

This is a collab that is rather scary, in a good way.
